Bridge Restoration Project Enfield
This bridge had been subject to the ravages of time, weeds, self-sets etc were growing in and around the bridge, affecting its fabric. Most of the pointing had failed, bricks and capping stones were missing, and various cracks had appeared in the structure over time.
Firstly all the growth was removed from the around the bridge and where it was growing in the brickwork, all the cement pointing areas around all bricks on the whole structure, was ‘chased’ out and removed. All broken bricks and capping were removed.
The whole bridge was repointed and areas of cracking were ‘stitched’ (This is a process of inserting metal rods, deeper in the pointing areas across the crack to stop it getting any worse). All the broken bricks and capping was replaced.
The bridge is now in great condition for many years to come.
Enfield – Composite Bridges & Boardwalk
This woodland walk in Forty Hall, Enfield, had 7No. wooden bridges that were beyond economic repair, following inspections, this caused some of the walk to be closed for a few months as the current bridges were deemed unsafe.
An initiative between Tottenham Hotspur, Enfield Council and Groundforce, sourced GRP footbridges, that not only had a ‘real’ feel to them, they fitted in with the surroundings, with the benefit of a lifespan of 30 plus years.
Other works on this project included, cutting back, preparation ground works, fencing and building aprons/ramps and steps to each bridge.
Enfield – Replacement of Brick Barrel Arch
The Brick Barrel Archway between 2No. large balancing lakes had unfortunately become beyond economic repair, was cracking, collapsing and unsafe. The archway is under a path/ roadway in the park.
Groundforce dug out and removed the Brick Barrel Archway and replaced it with a new 1.2mtr internal diameter pipe c/w a 22.5 degree bend.
To make the project more in keeping with the area, one end had a brick arch built to cover the pipe and the other end was reinstated to look the same as it was before. The path/ roadway was then reinstated
