Enfield – Floating Pennywort Removal
Floating pennywort is an invasive aquatic plant that can over-run water bodies in the UK, and is threatening habitats, native plants, fish and insects, which can grow up to 12 inches a day.
This site had approx 4000m2 of Floating Pennywort which was manually removed and disposed of through a specialist waste disposal company. Working with the Local Council and the Environmental Agency, a 3 year maintenance plan has been formulated to treat the margins on a regular basis until the Floating Pennywort is eradicated, with minimal environmental impact. The debris boom will stay in place until complete eradication has been achieved to ensure control of the Floating Pennywort in this area and connecting water bodies.
Whilst the operation was carried out strict protocol systems were in place to ensure the Floating Pennywort did not spread into other areas of nearby watercourses.
